 Purpose
Create an interdisciplinary environment that provides realistic hands-on
clinical experiences with the expectation that patient care will be
improved.
The Vision
SIMS Medical Center was created to provide an educational
environment that supports student learning. We believe that the patient
simulation environment allows students to develop team work, communication,
problem solving, critical thinking, and patient care skills. While
the bulk of our students are enrolled in the School of Health & Patient
Simulation and the School of Nursing, SIMS Medical Center, in cooperation
with SIMS
Medical Academy, provides simulation train the trainers, skills update for current medical
personnel and certification and re-certification from CPR to ACLS.
Advantages
* Improved Evaluation:
- Student involvement in evaluation process
- Closed circuit television used to record
experiences
* Alternate clinical site experience:
- Students assigned to SIMS Medical when
"actual" affiliate is temporarily unavailable
* Ensure wide range of experiences:
- Some clinical experiences are not available, but
can be replicated at SIMS Med.
* Individual assistance:
- Students needing additional help or time can be
identified mentored at SIMS Med.
* Pre-Clinical experience:
- Realistic experiences for all students before
entering the actual clinical site.
