Acute Care Unit is a four bed facility with a work station. Shown here are beds A and B.  This area is used by Nursing, Respiratory Care, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapist Assistants, Radiography, and for introducing basic skills to CNAs (certified nursing assistants.)

Acute Care Unit with patient on ventilator.

The patient shown is recovering in Acute Care Unit Bed A.   It would not be uncommon to walk into a unit and find "relatives" visiting the patient.

Part of Total Application Scenario (TAS) is to provide the same situations encountered in actual clinical experiences.

Beds 3 and 4 in Acute Care. Today, being used as a maternity ward. Bed C and D in Acute Care being used as a maternity ward.

SIMS Medical Center Acute Care Work Station

Just as in a "real" hospital, our students have to answer the phone, complete paperwork and use electronic devices to find patient information. Note the two patient monitors which are duplicates of the monitors next to the patient bed.
