One of the control units in SIMS Medical Center

A remote control room is a very important aspect of Total Application Scenario (TAS) The ability to control and record all activities happening during patient simulation increases realism and enhances evaluation.  SIMS Medical typically uses "real time" simulations, meaning that the patient reacts to the actions of care givers in the room.  The faculty / operator can hear what is being said in the patient area, then "speak" for the patient, providing a highly realistic reaction.

Acute Care has both static and remote control cameras to record all activities.  Other patient areas of SIMS Medical utilize static "security" style recording systems.  Some cameras have a built-in very sensitive microphone.  As many as four cameras can be used by one monitor / recording unit.  This method is inexpensive and very easy to install and operate.  Some of the equipment is no longer made, so we are switching over to color digital recording units with a separate audio system.
